Why We Focus Domain Renewal (And You Should, Too!)

Domain names are the human readable names for website addresses or internet protocols. Registered domain names help your business to grow more successfully than domains which are temporary available to the whole public for free. You can register your domain name or website address through domain registrars. They charge a small amount of fee to keep your domain name registered through them for you and provides you an interface, where you can easily manage your domain names registered with that specific registrar.

Why Renewing Domain Names is Important?

  • The answer is quite simple! When you pay for a limited time in order to keep your domain name registered then, a date of expiry appears. After the expiration date, you have to purchase the domain again or someone else can take it before you.
  • If you do not renew your domain then, your chances to loose the work done on that specific domain, increases.
  • Domains with high ranking can not be bought with normal rates as before! Once you loose your highly ranked domain, you can not have it in pennies or even in a few dollars.
  • Companies keep a system of checking well ranked domains through different aspects of ranking and so, they charge in thousands of dollars for the domain you bought for just $10 or else.
  • Secondly, you aren't sure if you will be able to get the domain back or not as the domain is parked and is made available for other customers to buy.
  • In this scenario, you must renew your domain names in time.

Mistakes You Should Not Do Again!

  • Always register domain names with properly accredited registrar through ICANN. ICANN is a company which holds the authority on domain names worldwide. ICANN accredit the company to sell domains with specified registering terms and conditions that implies equally on all customers and registrars. It is recommended that you confirm if the seller is accredit from ICANN or not.
  • May be in hurry, you bought domain through a seller whose performance is not good for your business. For example, there are many companies which only provides the interface to manage the domain names registered with them but there servers are too slow to update records, or the support team is always sleepy etc. At such times, you must transfer your domain name to some ranking or good registrar using Domain Transfer options.
  • You can not transfer your domain name within 60 days of purchase. So, in order to transfer domain name to another registrar, you must wait for at first 60 days. After that follow the domain transfer guidelines given by registrar.
  • Make sure to check the fee to transfer domain before registering domain name with any registrar.

Domain Automatic Renewal / Domain Manual Renewal

  • When you register a domain, you register it for some limited time. It can be for a minimum registering time i-e 1 year or even for long time 10 years so on. Usually, you register it for some years and so renewal process occurs. In most cases, you do not check the option for auto renewal and you keep the renewal process manually. So, if you are willing to manually renew domain name then, keep a check on emails you receive prior to domain expiry dates. You must follow through the guidelines to renew domain manually.
  • In other case, if you have checked for domain auto renewal then, you must have provided payment details to the domain registrar. Be careful to add proper financial details as if you do not enter them correctly then, auto renewal will be failed and so, you can loose your domain name.
